Description and Services
Description (Service) Agency works with community partners to help identify and partner with families that qualify to make the move to home ownership as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty.
To make home ownership affordable to low-income families, the agency coordinates with volunteers, businesses, community leaders, and all levels of government to build and facilitate a no down payment home and uses an interest free, long term mortgage for financing.
Prospective homeowners must complete a written application which is assessed by the Family Selection Committee. Once chosen, the family must complete 500 hours of volunteer work which is called "sweat equity" for Habitat. Most of the "sweat equity" hours can be completed on the build of the chosen family's home.
