| Description (Service) | Primary function is to provide backup communications to agencies that require these services in an emergency * ARES members are kept current by participating in emergency exercises and by providing communications for some community events * licensed radio amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes * licensed radio amateurs * whether or not a member of RAC or any other local or regional organization * are eligible for membership in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service |
