| Description (Service) | Health Unit programs and services are delivered in a variety of settings (schools * homes * workplaces * community) by a team of health professionals Health Protection include: water supply inspections and sampling * education on safe food handling * enforcement of Smoke Free Ontario Act * health hazard investigation Health Promotion and Clinical Services consist of public health nurses * health promoters * dental hygienists * home visitors * registered practical nurses and a community dietitian who work to protect and promote health * activities include immunization clinics * education related to prevention of chronic disease * prevention of falls * dental screening of children in schools * prenatal education * breastfeeding education * Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program and Child Health Clinics Program Planning and Evaluation: local health statistics are analyzed to help understand the factors affecting the health of the community * and to ensure that public health programs address local population health needs Health Information Line (HIL) services are available to respond to questions about a variety of health issues such as travel immunization * infant and child feeding * communicable disease issues and referrals to appropriate health unit and community supports and services |
