Description and Services
Description (Service) Follows the Headstart program for pre-school children guidelines * develop in children the skills needed to enter the school system with a strong sense of individual worth and abilities * activities are introduced in response to the children's interests and programmed to meet the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the children * daily communication and an open door policy for parents 
Program includes: 
* indoor/outdoor free play activities which include music, art, drama, gross and fine motor skills 
* child-directed environment which promotes divergent thinking, decision making and self-help skills 
* circle time 
* book bag program 
* speech and language development 
* active living guidelines that provide the children with the appropriate time, instruction, equipment and environment to support the development of physical literacy 
* healthy eating guidelines that promote healthy eating by providing nutritious and safe foods in a supportive environment in accordance with the Day Nurseries Act and Canada’s Food Guide. 
* hot lunch plus two snacks prepared on the premises by a full-time cook, that meet all the children’s nutritional requirements

Fees Service ; Each licensed Headstart program has full or partial subsidies for families who qualify. Parents may apply for a subsidy through the City of Ottawa Childcare Registry and Waitlist. For help applying for a subsidy, please call or stop by a Headstart program in your neighborhood, call 3-1-1 or go to a City of Ottawa Client Service Centre. * Fee assistance available for those who meet the criteria ; assistance is provided by the City of Ottawa.
