Description (Service) | Helps francophone adults who are of racial or ethnocultural minorities with healthy aging and helps meet their individual needs as well as avoid isolation. * Workshops and seminars: once a month, a health professional organizes an information session on a variety of subjects of interest including nutrition, geriatric health issues, finances, etc. * outings are organized each month in order to avoid isolation * English and French conversation tables: helps seniors develop and improve their communication skills in French by sharing ideas and talking about events * Meetings over coffee: this service is offered every week and takes place during social activities and coffee breaks, followed by recreational games * community kitchen * Transportation: helps seniors get to their appointments, specifically health related appointments as well as social events * Accompaniment: an individual can accompany a senior while shopping, talking a walk, going to the mall or even to church * Friendly visiting and family supervision: friendly visits are organized directly between a volunteer and the client * the volunteer can invite the senior to his house in order to break the cycle of a routine * Telephone reassurance: a volunteer can make a daily call to avoid isolation and to ensure that the senior is doing well |
