| Description (Service) | An intensive and specialized psychiatric and mental health program offering assessment, consultative and multi-modal treatment services to youth with a focus on early onset major psychiatric, complex and treatment resistant disorders, as well as persisting serious disorders of childhood. * The program offers a full continuum of care: Inpatient * Partial Hospitalization * Day Treatment * Outpatient and Outreach services in support of youth and their families. The Youth Program integrates evaluation, research, education and early intervention services into best practice clinical service delivery. * Joint Central Intake Services for ROH (youth 16-18 years of age) and CHEO (children under 16) are located at CHEO. Central Intake will conduct a needs assessment and triage the case following the mandated services of each hospital. Call 613-737-2496 (toll free number 1-866-737-2496) for Central Intake. Inpatients:: An eight-bed unit providing comprehensive assessment, stabilization and treatment by a specialized interdisciplinary team for youth that have serious early onset major psychiatric disorders who are unable to function in less supportive environments or with their families. Partial Hospitalization: A day/evening program for up to 16 youth attending on a part-time or partial basis. Provides comprehensive treatment by a specialized interdisciplinary team for youth with serious early onset major psychiatric disorders who require intensive treatment but are able to function in the community or while living with their families. The Inpatient and Partial Hospitalization units are strongly linked for service delivery. Day Treatment - Rehabilitation: Day Treatment will be a key service in the "rehabilitation" phase of care and will occur in a classroom setting in a community high school (Laurentian) supported by both mental health professionals and special education teachers. Local school boards take the lead in delivering Section 20 contracts. Day Treatment will be a step-down service from either Inpatient or Partial Hospitalization care or a step-up service from Outpatient Services. Outpatient: These assessment, consultation and treatment services are provided to those clients who can function in the local community with clinical support from an interdisciplinary team. Services are delivered in collaboration/partnership with community and mental health providers. Individual family and group interventions incorporate evidenced-based treatment and best practice principles into clinical service delivery. Outreach: Interdisciplinary team targeting early onset major psychiatric disorders to the counties of their catchment area. Services vary depending on the agreed need and scope of support required, the principle being to provide the essential link of knowledge and support to treat youth in the local community and enabling access to specialized psychiatric services as needed. |

| Eligibility | Ages: 16 year(s) - 18 year(s) Youth 16-18 years old who meet the clinical criteria, and their families * Youth Program Clinical Criteria: 1) Major Axis 1 diagnosis including anxiety disorders, schizophrenia related disorders and mood disorders as well as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) 2) Mental illness with concurrent substance abuse, not dependence 3) Disorders with refractory or complicated course requiring specialized care 4) Disorders with complex care needs that cannot be met in another environment 5) Disorders of special research or academic interest who may benefit from investigational, diagnostic and treatment approaches 6) Variance on the age criteria is possible if it is in the best interest of the youth to be served by the Youth Program * Youth Program Exclusion Criteria: 1) Primary Conduct Disorder 2) Active Substance Dependence 3) Patients requiring long term residential care 4) Court ordered secure custody cases 5) Emergency crisis and acute/short-term stabilization services are located at CHEO as per the Children and Youth – Specialized Psychiatric and Mental Health Services program (CY-SPMHS) plan 6) Eating Disorders and Development Delay including Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) |
