Description (Service) Independent law enforcement agency * ensures that Canadian businesses and consumers prosper in a competitive and innovative marketplace 
 
The types of anti-competitive activities investigated by the Bureau include: price fixing * bid-rigging * false or misleading representations * deceptive notice of winning a prize * abuse of dominant position * exclusive dealing * tied selling and market restrictions * refusal to deal * mergers * multi-level marketing plans and schemes of pyramid selling * deceptive telemarketing * deceptive marketing practices 
 
Has the ability to refer criminal matters to the Attorney General of Canada, who then decides whether to prosecute before the courts * also has the power to bring civil matters before the Competition Tribunal or other courts depending on the issue 
 
The Information Centre is the first point of contact for the public * the staff answers questions and records complaints
