Description (Service) | Centre that provides immigrants with English or French language assessments for government-funded programs. Programs included in the government funded Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral System (CLARS): * English as a Second Language (ESL) * French as a Second Language (FSL) * Language instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) * Bridge to Work Programs/Placements (BWP) * Enhanced Language Training (ELT): higher level language training * "Cours de langue de niveau avancé" (NLCA) * Occupation Specific Language Training (OSLT) * "Formation linguistique axée sur les professions" (FLAP) Certified Language Assessors administer: * standardized Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) * Canadian Language Benchmarks Literacy Assessment (CLBLA) * Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT) * Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA) * "Batterie de test de classement" (BTC) Following assessment, language benchmarks are assigned and clients are referred to the appropriate program * an information & referral specialist is available to assist newcomers referrals to diverse settlement needs |

Eligibility | Ages: 18 year(s) and up Ontario residents 18 years and older who are: * Canadian Citizens born outside of Canada * Permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant ) * Convention refugees * Refugee claimants * Persons in Canada whose applications for Permanent status are being processed in Canada and who have been informed by a letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada-IRCC of the initial approval of their application subject to an admissibility assessment. * other specific cases, call for more details |
