Description (Service) Encourages charitable giving by people who want to leave a lasting legacy to the community * donations are pooled, invested and held forever, to enhance the quality of life in the community * income on the interest is given away through grants to charitable organizations to support arts and culture, community development, education and literacy, environment, health and social services, heritage preservation, recreation, youth, and other community activities 
Individuals, families, businesses, corporations, private foundations and non-profit organizations can establish permanent endowments in various ways through: outright gift of cash or one pledged over a number of years * bequest in a will * gift of life insurance * transfer of an existing trust * the transfer or creation of an endowment fund * gift of stocks or bonds * gift of real estate or other tangible property
